Gifts from Tokyo

My friend bought me some gifts from Japan so I thought I would share with you guys.

These Tokyo Bananas have been popular on social media sites for a while now and I finally got to try them.  I googled them up and it turns out a box of banana is pretty expensive, around $28.

Tokyo Banana (東京ばな奈)

Opening the Package. Really elegant and minimalistic wrapping. I love the design and layout.

The box looks amazing as well.

The tokyo banana has a fluffy sponge cake with banana custard in the middle.

Banana puree was used to make the custard and you can expect them to be super smooth. I actually don't really like banana but this is pretty good. Great quality with natural ingredients. 

Here are 2 other flavours I tried: Tokyo Banana Caramel キャラメル味(Left) and Tokyo Chocolate Banana チョコバナナ味 (Right)

Cool print on sponge cake.

This chocolate banana version. It is chocolatey but the chocolate does not overpower the taste of the banana.

If you don't really like the banana taste, I would recommend the caramel flavoured banana. The custard tasted more like toffee than banana. 

After trying out the different kind of Tokyo bananas, I think I know why they cost so much. This sweet treat requires much work to make. It is exquisite - from packaging to taste. A great gift for your loved ones.

Hokkaido Creamy Milk Cake. Another beautiful packaging.

Initially, I thought there is a difference between the baby blue and yellow pack but they tasted the same.

Tasted like steamed cakes. Buttery and milky with a soft, fluffy cake.

It gets a little too sweet and cloying on the second cake. I need a cup of hot Matcha.

Another Hokkaido treat: Shiroi Koibito - Chocolat Blanc Langue de Chat

This one has got white chocolate. 

The biscuit is soft and crumbles easily. Smooth white chocolate sandwiched between 2 milky and buttery biscuit with some coarse sugar. 

The thing I like about Japanese food is the details and thoughtfulness they put in to make the products. Many thanks my friend! :)

Korea treats: Lotte + Crown

Lotte is a well known manfacturer in South Korea but not so much in Singapore unless you're into Japanese/ South Korea culture.

My friend visited South Korea and brought back some nice snacks I thought I would review them.

The first one is the Margeret. I think it cost around 3500won since it is written on the box. There are 12 packs in it with 2 cookies in each pack. The box looks pretty classy like those cookies you would have for high tea in Europe.

The sweet almond butter smell is very appetizing and they are actually soft cookies that crumbles easily.Although it is pretty soft, it still has a crust of butter cookies with almond bread-like crumbs filling. It adds kinda of like layers to the cookies that makes it really interesting.These is pretty addictive and I can have like 4-5 packs at one go.



The next one is the Lotte Kancho (Honeydew flavor) The packaging is really cute. This cost 1000 won per pack. The Kancho looks kinda of the the Meiji's Hello Panda but it taste really different. Unlike the Hello Pandas, the Kancho have a rough-textured cookie.

If you look at the cross section, the cookie is pretty uneven on the inside so it makes it really crunchy. The melon cream tasted like vanilla mixed with honeydew and there is a light sweet smell of honeydew. Pretty nice if you like a rough textured cookie.


























Crown Couque D'asse White. This box comes with 12 packs of cookies in it. I like the product design of the Crown cookie box alot. It comes with a easy tear V-shape line that creates sort of like a lid to open the box. The next one is the zipper-line to open the pack of the cookie rectangles. Just tear along the zipper line and it makes it really neat and clean.

The is a fragrant butter smell. This is made out of two really thin soft buttermilk cookie with vanilla cream sandwiched between. It is really creamy and I love the buttermilk taste. There are like chocolate pattern on the cookie it doesn't really a chocolate taste to it. 

Goldilocks Polvoron

So my friend went to Philippines and bought some nice snacks (kinda of like candies to them) I heard that this brand is pretty much the household brand that everyone knows in the Philippines. I don't know if you can get these in Singapore.

On the website it says: " The polvoron is similar to English Shortbread; a mixture of toasted flour, milk, butter, and sugar cooked and then molded. Available in the plain and flavored variety (ube, with peanut, pinipig)".

To me, it has the texture smilar to a sugary powdery/paste that is very smooth and crumbles easily in the mouth.

Cashew: The cashew flavor contains bits of cashew nuts in the middle.























Peanut: The peanut one taste like those peanut candies rectangles that I used to eat when I was younger. The only difference is that the one I used to eat is a little coarser and the Goldilocks ones are really fine.

























Cookies n cream: This is one of my favourite. There are bits of chocolate cookies in it. Kinda of like eating a chunk of powdered milk with cookies bits.

























Coffee crumbles: This one tasted like eating coffee powder with nuts. It strange but I kinda of like it. Kinda like eating dried cappucino. Haha.
























Pinipig: This one has got rice crisps in the middle of it. Tasted like wholegrain cereal for breakfast.

Original: Pretty much milk powder chunk.

I think I reached my limit by eating all the above at once with a cup of green tea. Too sweet to eat at one go. Probably have like one or two at a time.
