S&B Beef Bowl

Late update of one of the japanese cool products I bought from Tokyo. This one looks pretty interesting. Instant beef slices! I'm very impressed with the dons in Tokyo area so I decided to buy this one to remind myself of the good days spent there.

S&B beef bowl - 150yen. Approx. $2.10

I cooked  some Japanese pearl rice.

Put the pack in boiling water for 3 minutes to cook. This is pretty delicious. Beef stew taste like they were cooked for a long time. Gravy a little sweet and the beef slices are thin and tender.

I'm not sure if you can buy this in Singapore but if you're feeling adventurous, you can grab some cool products from Meidi-ya supermarket that has products directly imported from Japan. It is pretty big but the products are a little pricey.

Chocolate Time

Warning: This is an extremely long post.

My family and I got a lot of chocolate during Christmas so I decided to share some of them. Here are some chocolate that I ate, skipping all those common ones like toblerone, mars and snickers.

Ritter sport - Yogurt Flavor

I usually eat chocolate that are pretty common and it's the first time I tasted a yogurt flavor chocolate. (Pardon my teeth mark) It is not as strong as real yogurt. This is pretty mild, slightly sour creamy yogurt with a layer of milk chocolate.

Trefin seashells.

Not only are they good looking, they are delicious as well. A outer layer of white and milk chocolate with soft gooey center of hazelnut chocolate. This is pretty sweet with slight hint of cocoa. One of my favorites.

Royce' Pure Chocolate.

One thing about japanese packaging is that they are so meticulous with the details and most offers creative packaging that is easy to open and looks amazing as well.

This is just plain milk chocolate. Surprisingly, it is not too sweet like the average milk chocolate. This one has a slight bitter taste of cocoa and is slightly sweet. Very smooth chocolate.

Time for some belgium chocolate. Belgium Mini Choc's Noir

I love dark chocolate. This one is bitter dark chocolate. I don't know why it tasted a little minty when there is no mint in it. My mind is playing tricks on me.

Meiji Meltykiss - Green Tea Flavor

Easy to open and cute packaging.

There is a very rich, milky and creamy green tea taste. My tongue feels it drank a cup of milk green tea. There is a thin layer of cocoa powder on the outside that gives a very slight hint of cocoa.

Meiji Meltykiss - Milk

Not really fond of this flavor. Taste like ordinary milk chocolate.

Meiji Meltykiss -Strawberry

If I were to choose among the flavors of Meiji's Meltykiss, it would be strawberry.  I love the sweet and sour strawberry, creamy and milky chocolate.

Delfi Chocolatier - Mousse Chocolate

The rectangles are pretty huge. I think I prefer those chocolate bars with smaller squares. This is pretty chunky and because it is so big, I find it a little too cloying, The outer chocolate is sweet, so is the smooth mousse in the center. Just too sweet to my liking.

Twix.  I think I seen this a lot but have never tried it before.

After eating all those chocolate above, I think Twix is no match for the chocolate brand. This taste like cheap biscuit with sugar. Caramel is plain sugary and the thin layer of chocolate taste like sugar as well.

That sums up my chocolate review.

Korea treats: Lotte + Crown

Lotte is a well known manfacturer in South Korea but not so much in Singapore unless you're into Japanese/ South Korea culture.

My friend visited South Korea and brought back some nice snacks I thought I would review them.

The first one is the Margeret. I think it cost around 3500won since it is written on the box. There are 12 packs in it with 2 cookies in each pack. The box looks pretty classy like those cookies you would have for high tea in Europe.

The sweet almond butter smell is very appetizing and they are actually soft cookies that crumbles easily.Although it is pretty soft, it still has a crust of butter cookies with almond bread-like crumbs filling. It adds kinda of like layers to the cookies that makes it really interesting.These is pretty addictive and I can have like 4-5 packs at one go.



The next one is the Lotte Kancho (Honeydew flavor) The packaging is really cute. This cost 1000 won per pack. The Kancho looks kinda of the the Meiji's Hello Panda but it taste really different. Unlike the Hello Pandas, the Kancho have a rough-textured cookie.

If you look at the cross section, the cookie is pretty uneven on the inside so it makes it really crunchy. The melon cream tasted like vanilla mixed with honeydew and there is a light sweet smell of honeydew. Pretty nice if you like a rough textured cookie.


























Crown Couque D'asse White. This box comes with 12 packs of cookies in it. I like the product design of the Crown cookie box alot. It comes with a easy tear V-shape line that creates sort of like a lid to open the box. The next one is the zipper-line to open the pack of the cookie rectangles. Just tear along the zipper line and it makes it really neat and clean.

The is a fragrant butter smell. This is made out of two really thin soft buttermilk cookie with vanilla cream sandwiched between. It is really creamy and I love the buttermilk taste. There are like chocolate pattern on the cookie it doesn't really a chocolate taste to it. 

King's Cookie Monster

I'm looking for cheap treats once again. I love the cookie monster that pretends to eat cookie at Sesame street and wonder if I like this ice cream too.

The outer coating is milk chocolate that is thicker than the usual ice cream with rice crisps on it. The crisps are still crispy (I thought it will be soft)

The core is pretty amazing. I thought the middle will be liquid chocolate, once again, it is a thick chunk of milk chocolate in the middle. (It is kinda of like the chocolate you get to the bottom of the cone.)

I love the layering, sweet milk chocolate coating that wraps the slightly bitter and soft chocolate ice cream with a sweet milk chocolate core.

I finished all 5 by myself in a day. Shucks.

Cheap treats for craving.

King's Sweetie and Cutie

Hi there! Another cheap ice cream I found that is good. Kind of hard to maintain weight these days. We all die of over consumption. By the way you should check out this lame video by dailygrace. She makes me laugh and I watched her videos when Im stressed out with the piling assignments.








Digressing! Anyway back to the point. The ice cream. The packaging is really kind of LOL especially the female cow. The name of the ice cream is LOL. LOL. Anyway, this credit card size chocolate coated ice cream comes with two flavor, chocolate and vanilla.

I like the outer layer of chocolate. It is not as thick as magnum but it goes really well with the nuts. I'm a 'nut' person so I really like this. You can taste the roasted nuts with fuses well with the chocolate.

I like the vanilla one better.  The ice cream is smooth but if you look closely, you can see very thin ice forming in the center of the ice cream. That's the one thing i didn't like about it. Perhaps my freezer is too cool. I suggest leaving it out a while for the ice cream to soften a little for a smooth texture.

Again, this is not the best ice cream but is cheap and worth the price!

I'm a Whovian: Fish Custard

I'm back for another food experiment. Fish and custard don't belong together but as a Whovian I must try and I finally got the chance to :)

Birds Eye is relatively easy to find, they are found in most outlets of Giant and Cold Storage.

For those who don't watch Doctor Who and wonder where Fish custard came from, it started with the very first episode of season 5, when the eleventh doctor landing at the backyard of Amelia Pond and subsequently in Amelia's kitchen looking for some food to eat. I love Matt Smith and I think he did an awesome job in both season 5 and 6.

Ambrosia, low fat devon custard is surprisingly hard to find. I tried NTUC, Cold Storage (Jcube, United Square), Carrefour (Plaza Singapura) and finally found this in Cold Storage Vivocity.

Price: $4.75 

This custard made in the UK nearly cost the same as the fish fingers. Gosh. 

Had a spoon. Thick, rich and sweet egg custard taste. This is really good quality stuff so it explains the price.

Baked golden fish fingers.

Dipped in custard. It is a really strange taste. There is more of a fish taste, with the golden crisp layer and a sweet aftertaste of custard. I can't really taste the egg at this point, only sweetness. I only had three and I can't go on anymore. Fish custard completed!

Custard left. Shouldn't scoop out this much. Wasted.

Tried out the fish finger with Chesdale Herb and Garlic slices. 

Love the cheese. Very strong cheese with a subtle garlic taste. 

Yum!  If you're an ardent fan of Doctor Who, you might want to have a go with fish custard!
