Korean Convenience Store - Ice Cream Adventure (Part III)

I'd watched a lot of korean reality shows/ dramas where they are munching down on ice cream cones or ice lollies. It looks so yum yum I had to try them all! Unfortunately I can't because of my short stay in Korea and I was having a bad cough the first few days of the trip.

Taking the subway and I saw Lotte ice cream product placement with some Korean idols. It was a sign that I must carry out my task of trying out ice creams from the convenience store!

Some of the convenience store I'd been to includes: GS25, random mini mart, CU and 7 eleven.

First up Cled'or Vanilla Almond Cone. I can't remember how much it cost but I think 1500won?

It says "Refreshing Premium Ice Cream"

It tastes pretty much like a normal vanilla almond ice cream very similar to Cornetto but I must say that Korean waffle cones are on another level compared to the cones available in Singapore. The waffle cones in Korea are longer, slightly thicker and crispier!

Lotte - Cookie O - 1600won (치즈샌드 - Cheese Sand)

I have never tried an ice cream sandwich before so this is really tempting! (Noob) The orange and white packaging makes it looks so delectable. It says "For those who wants the best cheese ice cream sandwich".

I presumed that the biscuit is really soft due to the moisture of the ice cream. It is easy to chew and there is a slight cheese aroma, not too overpowering. Pretty delicious. It looks small in the picture but it is of decent size.

Lotte Green Tea ice cream - 1000won (녹차마을 - Green Tea Village) I love green tea and wanted to have the waffle cone again! This has got a bright lime green packaging. Lotte has a way to make things look delicious.

It taste really creamy and with a slight hint of green tea. I can smell the fragrance of green tea while eating. This is not bitter at all so you can give it a try!

At this point in time, I'm starting to notice that the pricing in the ice cream differs a lot depending on which mart you go to. For instance I bought this in a random mini mart near my guest house and a lot of the ice cream here only cost around 1000 won compared to pricier marts like GS25, CU and 7 eleven.

However, I must say the interior of GS25,CU and 7 eleven are so much cleaner and brighter compared to the random mini mart I entered. Larger chain marts provide tables and chairs for eating unlike those mini marts.

Binggrae - Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich - 1500won (빵또아 - PangToa - Sponge cake)

It says in Korean "Smooth". 200 calories of goodness is not really that sinful. (At least to me)

This is one of my favourite ice cream ever. It is more like an ice cream cake. Indeed, it is really smooth and creamy with two thinly slice, ultra smooth sponge cake sandwiching the cookie ice cream. The whole thing is just so smooth and with a little bit of texture from the cookie bits. (I keep mentioning smooth but it is the only world I can think of.)

I can eat this everyday!

Another one from Binggrae - Fish shaped ice cream waffle with red bean paste. (붕어싸만코 ) - 1500won Plus 1 for the design!

It looks similar to the fish shaped Korean street snack which has red bean in it as well.

The waffle is soft and chewy. It is like eating a soft vanilla ice cream cone with lumps of red bean. I like red beans so this is pretty good.

The only ice lolly I tried. 해대 (탱크보이 - Tank boy) Apple ice - 1000won. The first time I saw this, I think it was in a Korean drama called Full House. Rain was eating this ice lolly on a swing with Song Hyo Kyo.

This is pretty easy to open. Just pull off the tab and you are good to go. This resembles a condiment bottle and it tastes pretty much like apple flavoured ice.

We have this in Singapore - those 2 segment bars but with artificial flavours that most of us used to eat during our primary school days. However, there are no tabs so we have to chew and twist the plastic tube like a drill so I really think that this packaging is thoughtful.

I figured I can some of these ice cream back here in Singapore but they cost lesser in Korea and it is the feeling of eating Korean ice cream in Korea that made it a unique experience.

Another point to note is that I have yet to taste any soggy cones in Korea so it was really nice to pay roughly a similar price (after currency conversion) and have a crispier and larger ice cream.

I will be back in Korea next year! Hopefully I can make a sequel to this. I love ice cream.

Mcflurry @ Mcdonalds

New flavors from Mcdonalds - Strawberry Shortcake and Mudpie Mcflurry.

Oreo Mcflurry - $2.20

I still love the original Oreo Mcflurry the best. Vanilla creamy goodness. Very smooth vanilla ice cream. Price hike. - This used to be $2. Now I need to dig out some shillings for this.

Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Mcflury - $2.50

I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake instead of the mudpie. This taste like I'm eating strawberry sundae with Oreo Mcflurry at the same time. Kinda predicted the taste of it with. Strawberry jam syrup with oreo. I love the chunks of strawberry in it. Pretty good but a tad too sweet.

Magnum Mini

I found these new flavors in the supermarket today. Magnum mini (6's) - $8.90

Two flavors - Pistacchio and Gianduia Nougat (Chocolate and Hazelnut)

I don't whenever I see green ice-cream, I automatically associate it with being minty and fresh. It is nothing like that. Pistacchio! It taste like almond though.

One thing I like about magnum ice-cream is their thicky and sweet milk chocolate coating! Super sweet but I like it. The chocolate and hazel nut tasted a little like coffee. Yum. Premium ice-cream.

King's Cookie Monster

I'm looking for cheap treats once again. I love the cookie monster that pretends to eat cookie at Sesame street and wonder if I like this ice cream too.

The outer coating is milk chocolate that is thicker than the usual ice cream with rice crisps on it. The crisps are still crispy (I thought it will be soft)

The core is pretty amazing. I thought the middle will be liquid chocolate, once again, it is a thick chunk of milk chocolate in the middle. (It is kinda of like the chocolate you get to the bottom of the cone.)

I love the layering, sweet milk chocolate coating that wraps the slightly bitter and soft chocolate ice cream with a sweet milk chocolate core.

I finished all 5 by myself in a day. Shucks.

Cheap treats for craving.

King's Sweetie and Cutie

Hi there! Another cheap ice cream I found that is good. Kind of hard to maintain weight these days. We all die of over consumption. By the way you should check out this lame video by dailygrace. She makes me laugh and I watched her videos when Im stressed out with the piling assignments.








Digressing! Anyway back to the point. The ice cream. The packaging is really kind of LOL especially the female cow. The name of the ice cream is LOL. LOL. Anyway, this credit card size chocolate coated ice cream comes with two flavor, chocolate and vanilla.

I like the outer layer of chocolate. It is not as thick as magnum but it goes really well with the nuts. I'm a 'nut' person so I really like this. You can taste the roasted nuts with fuses well with the chocolate.

I like the vanilla one better.  The ice cream is smooth but if you look closely, you can see very thin ice forming in the center of the ice cream. That's the one thing i didn't like about it. Perhaps my freezer is too cool. I suggest leaving it out a while for the ice cream to soften a little for a smooth texture.

Again, this is not the best ice cream but is cheap and worth the price!

Gelateria Italia @ Jcube

Ice cream treat of the week at Gelateria Italia!

Two scoop of ice cream on a waffle cone for $7.90. It's a little pricey but this is really delicious. I really like the chewy texture of the gelato and the toppings (chocolate rice, rainbows and tiny marshmallows) are free to add on our own.

One of them is dark praline truffle. I love the thick, rich and slightly bitter chocolate. Hidden in it are one or two chocolate chunks that melts in the mouth. The other one is some cookie, I can't remember. It tastes like buttermilk. Waffle cone is crispy that goes well with the chewiness of the gelato. Sinful indulgence!

King's Fruity Lime Surprise

King's Fruity Lime from NTUC. It's on promotion.
Price: $4 for 2 packs (6's) Indulgence for a cheap price. Of course I won't eat all. I'll share the calories with my family. Teehee.

This is really one classic brand that we all know and probably eaten at some point in our lives. This is how I eat it: Finish the outer coat of lime first before going into the vanilla! Refreshing. I wonder how many people out there do the same.

Best thing on a hot day. I like the lime icy exterior. Not too sour nor sweet. Just the right amount that hits the spot. The vanilla is creamy and a hint of sweetness. I notice that my ice cream lollies melt fast than 10 years back. Must be global warming.

Rating: 3.5! Not the finest ice cream but value for money.

Mr. Bean ice cream in a cup

A little treat after my last paper! Woohoo! A cup of ice cream after completing another semester felt great.

Mr. bean ice cream in a cup: $1.80

I really like food with nice packaging. Bonus points. It was really late at night and I was the last customer. The staff is really friendly! Okay about the ice cream,  it is really soft and has a very strong soybean taste so if you don't like soybean it's too bad.

I like the taste but the texture is a little sandy. (I hope you can see in the picture)
Well it's soy! Okay...

Meiji Ice Cream

Meiji Ice cream $5.80

Got this at cold storage. 10sticks in a pack, made in Japan.



This really small like magnum mini. Wait. It's even smaller than magnum mini. It actually consist of vanilla ice cream, which is coated with a layer of bubble gum flavored ice. It taste a little like f&n's ice cream soda.

I can't read Japanese but I think it says 56kcal per stick.

Ingredients: Dairy product sugar, apple juice, vegetable fat, stabilizer, emulsifier, flavor, color.

Pretty yummy - 3.5 stars.
